Just an update between too infrequent posts. Despite very supportive family and friends (thanks, everybody), the stress, disappointment and frustration of job searches and whatnot is getting to me. Because of that, I haven't had a lot of money to spend eating out lately.
Nevertheless, I am starting a new project to get the stress of this allegedly-finished recession and underemployment off my mind. Every week or two, I will try to acquaint myself with the cuisine of a culture or region that I am mostly unfamiliar with. I will be seeing how little I can spend while teaching myself more about the foods of the world. I'm calling this "Food Ethnography on a Budget". It's the least silly name I could think of. Sue me. Scratch that - don't sue me.
Stay tuned later this week, as I start to acquaint myself with the cuisine of Cambodia.

I love to frequent grocery store salad bars. You should review them as a project. Very economical.
Yes they are, but they scare me.
What a cool idea! Are you going to post recipes as well?
That sounds great! (On an unreated note, how about a post on great food writing? What consitutes great food writing? I read an article/recipe on brioche where the lady described the food in such loving tems that I was vaguely embarrassed. But, yeah, I made the recipe to see the wonder of these "silky, pettable" rolls. Is the point of food writing to entice the reader to eat/make the food, or to analyze the character of the food, or some completely different objective? Not sure if you know, but you're better qualified to muse.)
I hear you.....good idea and will look forward to reading your posts!

That is bourgeois Cambodian cuisine. Give a recipe using the meat of the poor http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/World-News/Cambodia-Rat-Meat-Prices-Soar-Amid-Soaring-Inflation-And-Increased-Popularity/Article/200808415088479.

Aaaaaand let me guess which aspect of Cambodian cuisine a wanna-be proletarian such as your bougie self will eat?
Yup, thought so: the pork.
I am in the same boat as you are, a food blogger looking for a job. Job searching is chinese water torture for the ego, I would say. My blog helps keep me sane. Love your blog. Hopefully the job fairy will sprinkle juju on both of us. At this point, I am almost willing to work at McDonald's...which at least would be bloggable.
