Food on the 1st Fourth of July / Memoirs of a Geisha

American Geisha pointed this out to me just now. It's an article in the Sun discussing just what our 4th of July menu has in common with that of our forefathers and foremothers. Mostly just the beer, wine and fruit juices. But not tea - the English drank that, so it was un-American. Far less so were seed cakes, for which there is a recipe dating to the 1790's. There's also an early nineteenth-century recipe for macaroni.

On another note: Geisha has brought her blog to an end. Check out her magnum opus here. Again, best wishes!
