Already this Chowhound site is paying off tip-wise: I just found a blog called the Amateur Gourmet. The author, Adam Roberts, has been posting since 2004, and is in Brooklyn, NY, but looks like he blogs on so much more than just NYC-related stuff. And, his blog is funny. I am not nearly as ambitious as the Amateur Gourmet - I don't aspire to make mine as big. But I'll be reading this one more and more.
